His Cancer Ruined Her Life

About 12 years ago my wife was diagnosed with cancer. The day she got the bad news was the worst day of both our lives. After her brain surgery, I vowed she wasn’t going to be alone. We slowly went through the recovery process only to find out a month later that it was terminal. I watched her body slowly shut down day after day. Towards the end, she couldn’t go to the bathroom or even feed herself anymore. I felt like my world was ending but I felt even worse for her because her world was literally ending. About a week after New Year’s 2011, she died in my arms….never in my wildest nightmares did it ever occur to leave her side. It was painful to see her decline day after day but I knew it was far worse what she went through than my feelings. In a way, I’m glad this man found out early how she was rather than years or decades later. I’m a firm believer that things happen for a reason.

Edit: thank you all for the kind words. May God bless each and everyone of you!

My (step) grandmother watched my grandfather die on New Year’s Eve last year after being taken off a ventilator after a battle with pneumonia and cancer that ate his spine before that. They were married for 20 years and has a son together. I watched this woman hold her family together by herself, and she always talked to us with such a hopeful smile every time.

I’m sure her mental health was and still may be terrible. But she didn’t leave him. Not only because they were married, but she LOVED my grandfather. She’s a real woman, and real women don’t abandon people who are going through their tough times.
