If only my older stepbrother had this kind of awakening. He’s a hardcore democrat, voted for Hilary, and is married to a liberal women. And he pretty much stopped associating with the rest of the family because he’s like that, and we’re primarily conservative.
When I turned 18, back in the 80’s, I went to the post office to register for selective service. They ask for political affiliation. I checked republican because my father was a registered republican and he always seemed to be informed and sober regarding politics. One of the best decisions I ever made.
